Verdi’s ‘Giovanna d’Arco’ – A Musical Rarity in Berlin
The story of Joan of Arc inspired Giuseppe Verdi to write his seventh opera, “Giovanna d'Arco,” which premiered in Milan in 1845 – but just 20 years later was hardly ever performed any more. The Berliner Operngruppe, which specializes in rare operas, and Bertelsmann brought “Giovanna d'Arco” to Berlin, where the opera was performed in the original version for the first time on March 5, 2018. This is the second such collaboration after the 2017 performance of Verdi's “Stiffelio.”
