Verdi: Creating "Otello" and "Falstaff" – Highlights from the Ricordi Archive
Bertelsmann’s Ricordi Archive in Milan houses treasures from 200 years of Italian opera history. The exhibition “Verdi: Creating Otello and Falstaff – Highlights from the Ricordi Archive” at New York’s famous Morgan Library & Museum brings some of these valuable artifacts to the United States for the first time. The show traces the creative process behind Verdi’s last two operas – from the publisher’s first thoughts on commissioning the celebrated composer to the premiere of “Otello” in 1887 and of “Falstaff” in 1893.
