Success At German Television Awards
At the presentation of the German Television Awards 2017 on 2 February at Düsseldorf’s Rheinterrassen, Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland and UFA won a total of nine awards: RTL and Vox each pocketed two trophies, RTL Nitro one, plus two awards for the UFA productions “Familienfest” and “Ku’damm 56”.
Club der roten Bänder
As in 2016, the Vox series “Club der roten Bänder” once again won the German Television Award in the “Best Series” category this year. The TV award jury explains its decision: “Hospital series reinvented: shining the spotlight on those who are generally not portrayed without a glaze of emotionalism is an achievement that only rarely succeeds.” The third and last season of the Bantry Bay production will be broadcast on Vox in fall 2017.
Kitchen Impossible
The second award for Vox went to “Kitchen Impossible”. The cooking show won in the “Best Factual Entertainment” category. The jury of the German Television Awards says about the show: “Good taste knows no limits or opponents. When Tim Mälzer has a duel with his cooking rivals, good entertainment is guaranteed.” In the cooking contest, which is also nominated for a Grimme Award, the best of the German speaking cooking trade take on seemingly unsolvable culinary challenges to defend their honor as chefs – no matter where.
Winnetou
“Winnetou” pocketed both awards for RTL. The three-part miniseries about the legendary Apache chief and his friend Old Shatterhand won this year’s German Television Award in the “Best Music” (Heiko Maile) and “Best Production Design” (Matthias Müsse) categories. The RTL Nitro show “Nitro Autoquartett” is also among the award winners of Mediengruppe RTL: in the “Best Individual Performance/Presentation Entertainment” category, Nils Bomhoff won as a part of Rocket Beans for his presentation of the “Nitro Autoquartett”.
Familienfest und Ku´damm 56
On behalf of UFA, the UFA Fiction production “Familienfest” received the “Best TV Film” award. Director Lars Kraume, who produced the TV movie, which was also shown in movie theaters in October 2015 with enormous success, also won the award for “Best Director”, including for “Familienfest”. Sonja Gerhardt was honored for “Best Actress” and also for her performance in the TV three-part miniseries “Ku’damm 56”. Screenplay author Annette Hess won an award for the production in the category “Best Screenplay”. With four awards, UFA Fiction won more awards than any other production company.
