Penguin Random House Celebrates 2024 Nobel Prize In Literature
The books of Han Kang, winner of the 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature, are published by Penguin Random House in many languages and countries, making her the latest of more than 80 Nobel laureates published by the publishing group.
Penguin Random House is thrilled to have yet another Nobel Prize in Literature laureate in its ranks. Yesterday, the Swedish Academy in Stockholm announced that the 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature, the most prestigious literary honor in the world, will go to South Korean writer Han Kang. Her books are published in the United States and Canada by Hogarth, in the Spanish-language Grupo Editorial Penguin Random House by Literatura Random House and La Magrana, and in the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand by Hamish Hamilton. Penguin Random House also publishes her audiobooks in many countries and languages. Han Kang is the first author from South Korea to receive this award. Some have seen her as a secret favorite for years, but for others, the decision came as a complete surprise.
In any case, it sparked great joy across the Penguin Random House publishing group. In a letter to all employees, CEO Nihar Malaviya wrote: “Han Kang is the newest among more than 80 of our authors who are recipients of a Nobel Prize. This is cause for celebration—for Han Kang, for the teams at Hamish Hamilton, Hogarth, Literatura Random House, La Magrana, PRH Audio, and for everyone at Penguin Random House. Warm congratulations to all the teams around the world who have played a part in bringing Han Kang’s brilliance to readers everywhere. This is an incredible display of our singular ability to publish such a unique and powerful cultural voice. It’s an honor to be the publisher of the first writer from South Korea to win literature’s esteemed prize. I know I speak for everyone when I say we are all immensely proud.”
“The Vegetarian,” the book that would earn her international acclaim, won the 2016 Man Booker International Prize, and earlier this year was chosen by The New York Times as one of the best books of the 21st century. Han Kang’s upcoming novel “We Do Not Part” will also be published by Penguin Random House next year in many countries around the world.
