Three nominations for “Faking Hitler”, two for “Viva la Diva”
“Faking Hitler” received nominations in the categories “Best Drama Series”, “Best Actor” (Moritz Bleibtreu) and “Best Music Fiction” (Helmut Zerlett, Robert Matt). The TV series is the fictionalized adaptation of the events surrounding the publication of the Hitler diaries. At the same time, it provides an in-depth look at sensationalism, fake news and human credulity. The series also shows how Germany was still under the spell of its national socialist past in the 1980s, and how “Stern” reporter Gerd Heidemann got tricked by art forger Konrad Kujau, triggering the biggest media scandal in German post-war history. Since the national launch on RTL+ in November 2021, Fremantle has sold “Faking Hitler” to several territories worldwide, including Australia and Canada. The drag show “Viva la Diva – Wer ist die Queen?” was nominated for a German Television Award in the categories “Best Entertainment Show” and “Best Production Entertainment”. It is based on the successful Dutch format “Make Up Your Mind” and brings the spectacular world of drag queens to TV. In the celebrity quiz show, famous men get fabulous drag make-overs and compete in a contest. The drag show celebrated its premiere on RTL on June 20 in Germany as part of “Diversity Week” and landed the primetime victory in the young target group with a 12.0 percent audience share among 14-49-year-old viewers. Fremantle owns the distribution rights to the show. The German Television Awards have been recognizing outstanding achievements in German television since 1999. The awards are donated by ZDF, Sat.1, ARD, Deutsche Telekom, and RTL. This year, an independent expert jury chaired by former UFA CEO Wolf Bauer will choose the award winners in a total of 30 categories for the past television year, i.e. for shows broadcast between July 1, 2021 and June 30, 2022. This year, the awards presentation will take place on two successive evenings – September 13 and 14 – for the first time, accompanied by a primetime show for TV audiences on the second day.
