BMG Remembers Musician David Crosby
David Crosby, world-renowned musician and member of the legendary band The Byrds, died on January 19 at the age of 81. Crosby was signed to BMG with his musical oeuvre, but also had ties to the company through a documentary film and a book collection. BMG had only recently announced the release of his first live album.
BMG remembers David Crosby, recording artist, publishing client, author, and subject of the critically acclaimed film “Remember My Name,” who passed away on January 19, 2023 at the age of 81.
Crosby, a singer-songwriter and guitarist, had joined The Byrds in 1964, who topped the charts in 1965 with their cover of “Mr. Tambourine Man.” Crosby would go on to form the Grammy award-winning Crosby, Stills & Nash (CSN) in 1968, before Neil Young joined the band adding his name (CSN&Y) prior to their legendary performance at the Woodstock Music and Art Fair in 1969. A two-time inductee into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for his work with both The Byrds and CSN, Crosby released his first solo album “If I Could Only Remember My Name” in 1971. He would go on to release dozens of works before his passing. Crosby initially joined BMG in 2017, signing a publishing deal, before several recordings deals, his acclaimed film, and later books project.
Albums, documentary and book collection
In 2019, BMG released the critically acclaimed Sundance Film Festival documentary “David Crosby: Remember My Name,” produced by Cameron Crowe and directed by A.J. Eaton. It would go on to earn a Grammy nomination for Best Music Film.BMG released Crosby’s final four albums including “Sky Trails” in 2017, “Here If You Listen” in 2018, “For Free” in 2021, and his most recent album “David Crosby & The Lighthouse Band Live At The Capitol Theatre” in 2022.
BMG is also the catalogue home of Crosby’s works with CPR (Crosby, Pevar & Raymond), featuring guitarist Jeff Pevar and pianist James Raymond, Crosby’s son, reissuing their collective two studio and two live albums “Live At Cuesta College,” “CPR,” “Live At The Wiltern,” and “Just Like Gravity” in 2020. In 2022, BMG released the book collection “The Byrds 1964-1967,” authored by the band’s three surviving founding members, Roger McGuinn, Chris Hillman, and David Crosby, depicting a unique visual history of the group.
