- Movie and cultural scene celebrates German Oscar® nominees in Los Angeles
- Media company Bertelsmann sponsors the reception before the “Night of Nights” in Hollywood
Around 500 representatives from the German and international movie and cultural scene gathered at the legendary Villa Aurora in Los Angeles on Saturday to celebrate this year's German Oscar® nominees. Bertelsmann was also there as one of the sponsors of the Oscar® reception, which is jointly hosted at the artists' residence by German Films, Villa Aurora e.V. and the German Consulate General in Los Angeles. The guests mainly included directors, actors, producers and film buyers who wanted to congratulate this year's nominees and express their appreciation during the lead-up to the “night of nights” in Hollywood.
Bertelsmann, which has a long cinematic tradition itself with the RTL Group production company subsidiary Fremantle Media and its German offshoot UFA, sponsored the event this year for the first time.
After welcoming speeches by Monika Grütters, Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, and the Mayor of Berlin, Michael Müller, the teams of nominees were presented at the Villa Aurora. For example, the team led by German director Patrick Vollrath, which is in the running for an Oscar for Best Short Film (Live Action) with “Everything Will Be Okay” (Alles wird gut), or the German Set Decorator Bernhard Henrich, who is nominated for Best Production Design for the spy thriller “Bridge of Spies.” Guests at the reception included the actors Burghart Klaußner (“Bridge of Spies,” “The Reader”) and Franco Nero (“Django Unchained”), the TV presenters Sylvie Meis and Verona Pooth, as well as Adam Stockhausen, who won an Oscar for Best Production Design in “The Grand Budapest Hotel” last year.
Bertelsmann was represented by prominent media managers, including RTL Digital Hub chief Marcel Reichart and BMG’s EVP Marketing & Licensing International Patrick Jöst.
