BDMI invests in E-Commerce startup Returbo

Bertelsmann AG’s venture capital fund Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments (BDMI) is investing a seven-digit sum in Returbo, a Berlin-based startup. The investment will serve to promote the continued growth of the e-commerce company, which was founded in November 2010 with the support of Found Fair Ventures GmbH, a business incubator in Berlin.

As a trusted problem-solver for mail-order retailers, distributors and brands, Returbo works closely with its partners to find the right sales channels for returned goods, end-of-lifetime models and overstocks. In addition to www.returbo.de, its online shop specializing in B-stock items, Returbo also draws on an unparalleled marketing network that includes a variety of marketplaces, deal platforms and B2B partners in Germany and abroad. Returbo also offers a “Return Services” option where, upon request, it can handle the complete operative side of the returns process for its cooperation partners – from logging to inspection and conditioning through to warranty management, warehousing and secondary marketing.

Tanja Glowka, managing director of Returbo, expressed her delight at BDMI’s investment: “It‘s expertise and network make BDMI an ideal partner for Returbo’s continued growth. We are pleased about their confidence in us and the opportunity to systematically develop our company.”

Jan Borgstädt, Head of European Ventures at BDMI, added: “Returbo has quickly attained an attractive position in the fast-growing e-commerce sector – especially by intelligently combining B2B and B2C. This investment is an excellent opportunity for us to continue developing this innovative model with a highly motivated team and to participate in Returbo’s growth.” BDMI makes targeted investments in up-and-coming young companies in the digital media sector.
