Arvato Systems Receives Certification For Computer Center

Within the framework of the “Datacenter Star Audits (DCSA)” of the Eco-Verband der Deutschen Internetwirtschaft, the eco-association of German Internet businesses, Arvato Systems’ computer center in Gütersloh is the first in Germany to be evaluated according to new, even more demanding standards and to be awarded for being in compliance, receiving four stars for operational safety and an extra green star for energy-efficiency.

Arvato Systems’ computer center at "An der Autobahn" in Gütersloh was developed and built over the past few years with many constructive and technological innovations. There was a desire to create a modern, energy-efficient and safe building. These cutting edge elements were the reason the computer center was evaluated by a neutral authority. As an addition to the ISO 27001 safety certificate, only the Eco-Verband’s rigorous auditing method specifically designed for evaluating computer centers was appropriate.

On June 26 the Eco-Verband presented the results of the audit in the five categories redundancy concept (the multiple establishment of important components to safeguard against failure), organizational safety (including processes, tools, documentation and personnel), structural safety (location, campus and building security), supply safety (power, air conditioning and data networks) as well as technical safety (fire protection, access system, surveillance and hazard management).

Across all categories, the results for Arvato Systems averaged 93 percent. Arvato Systems even scored 100 percent with regard to structural and organizational safety. The company was especially able to score high with regard to the air conditioning system for the computer center as well as with the data networks and network infrastructure. The redundancy concept was also convincing since the components relevant to operations are hot swappable without any effect on system availability.

Roland Broch of Eco-Verband: “At its computer center, Arvato Systems complies with all of the current mandates and standards. The many details and measures have resulted in a modern, integrated concept in this case. In addition to operational safety, we were especially impressed with the energy-efficiency concept, and in the end we arrived at this very good overall assessment.”

Thomas Chlebowski, Vice President Arvato Systems: “We are really proud of this excellent result. It shows that we are on the right track with our overall concept for the computer center with regard to safety and energy efficiency. The employees at the computer center have done a great job.”

In its evaluation, the Eco-Verband especially emphasized the energy-efficiency of Arvato Systems and therefore awarded a fifth “green star” for “Approved energy efficient datacenter.” The many energy-efficiency steps that lead to lower power consumption as well as reduced CO2 emissions convinced the auditors.
