Arvato Builds New Logistics Center
Arvato continues to drive forward the expansion of its growth business of Supply Chain Management (SCM) services. The Arvato SCM Solutions business unit will build a state-of-the-art distribution center in the northern Ruhr area in the months ahead, investing over €30 million in the first phase alone.
Many new jobs
Three halls and a central office building with a floor area of over 28,000 square meters will initially be built on the twelve-hectare site. The preparatory excavation work will start at the end of March, weather permitting. Arvato will eventually create a triple-digit number of industrial and commercial sector jobs at the new location.
The site also has extensive expansion areas allowing for the construction of a total of twelve hall modules. Additional intermediate levels can also be installed to customize and expand the storage capacity to individual customer needs. Ultimately, the planned SCM center could have a surface area of over 100,000 square meters.
Central location
Arvato will provide comprehensive SCM services for B2B and B2C customers in various industries from its new Dorsten/Marl industrial park site. The services will include order and inventory management, picking & packing and special services, shipping and transport management, as well as returns processing.
Frank Schirrmeister “After reviewing various alternatives we decided on the Dorsten/Marl location because it has excellent transport links and an outstanding infrastructure,” says Frank Schirrmeister, CEO of Arvato SCM Solutions. “Its central location in Germany's most populous state and its close proximity to the Benelux countries makes this site in the northern Ruhr region an ideal complement to Arvato’s existing logistics centers in the Netherlands, East Westphalia, Hannover and Greater Halle/Leipzig. The Dorsten/Marl inter-municipal industrial park also has a direct link to Europe's densest traffic and waterway network.”
Excellent infrastructure
Schirrmeister says another advantage of the new site in the northern Ruhr area is direct access to the Deutsche Post DHL and DPD parcel distribution logistics service, which enables Arvato to deliver goods to customers overnight to all locations in Germany. Another major factor is its proximity to numerous universities, research institutes and technology centers in the region. “This an important aspect especially in relation to the recruitment of competent and motivated professionals and executives,” says Schirrmeister, who also praised the cooperation with the partners involved in the project. The collaboration with Wirtschaftsförderung Metropoleruhr GmbH, the Dorsten/Marl industrial park project company, the cities involved, and Steag GmbH went outstandingly well and very smoothly, he says.
