The Digital Entertainment Group (DEG) has honored Sonopress for the market introduction of the visual data carrier Ultra HD Blu-ray 100 with an award in the "Best Digital Product or Service Innovation for 2016" category. Sven Deutschmann, CEO of the Bertelsmann Printing Group company, accepted the prestigious innovation award at the end of last week at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The CES is the world’s largest industry tradeshow for technological developments and a global meeting point for leading technology companies and innovative companies from the entertainment industry.
DEG President Amy Jo Smith said at the award presentation: "If the industry wants to meet the consumers’ demands for innovative and diversified methods of providing content, we have to offer an excellent medium to provide consumers with content. We are therefore delighted to award the first ‘DEG Digital Product Innovation Award’ to Sonopress for its role in the successful introduction of the 4K Ultra HD." For Sven Deutschmann, the award by the industry association is a well-deserved reward for the trailblazing work of the entire Sonopress team in the past year. "The Ultra HD Blu-ray 100 is a quantum leap in the development of digital storage media. We are very proud of being the pioneer in the entire industry with this innovative technology."
100 gigabytes of data
In the summer of 2016 Sonopress was the first company in the world to receive the certification for the innovative visual disc, which is able to store up to 100 gigabytes of data as a triple layer disc. Intensive process developments and innovative machine configurations preceded the final product. Sonopress first delivered the Ultra HD BD 100 to the U.S. market. The first movie releases on UHD BD 100 included Hollywood blockbusters such as "Man of Steel" and "Superman vs. Batman", both from the Hollywood studio Warner Bros. Today, Sonopress has already produced over two million Ultra HD Blu-ray discs in its Gütersloh main facility.
