The “New York Times Book Review” has published its list of the “25 Best Children’s Books of 2019.” Penguin Random House is represented with a picture book, a children’s book, and three young-adult books – plus a Best Illustrated Children’s Books award from the newspaper.
Just a few days ago, as reported, the “New York Times Book Review” presented its list of “100 Notable Books of 2019,” on which Penguin Random House is represented with a proud 45 titles. This is now followed by the newspaper’s list of the year’s best children’s and young-adult books. Here, too, the publishing group made a strong showing. Penguin Random House’s children’s book imprints published five of the “25 Best Children’s Books of 2019” selected by the “New York Times Book Review.” The ranking begins with books for the youngest readers: picture books. One of the year’s best is “My Papi Has a Motorcycle” by Isabel Quintero, illustrated by Zeke Pena and published by Kokila. Laura Tucker made the list in the Middle Grade category with “All The Greys On Greene Street” (Viking Books for Young Readers).
The Young Adult category features three books published by Penguin Random House: “The Fountains of Silence” by Ruta Sepetys (Philomel), “Frankly in Love” by David Yoon (Putnam Books for Young Readers), and the National Book Award finalist “Pet” by Akwaeke Emezi (Make Me a World). At the end of November the renowned U.S. newspaper published its list of “The 2019 New York Times/New York Public Library Best Illustrated Children’s Books” – and rated children’s books solely on the basis of their artistic merit. One of the outstanding books here was “The Lost Cousins,” written and illustrated by B.B. Cronin, published by Viking Books for Young Readers.
