Arvato Systems offers serialization solutions for protagonists of the international healthcare and pharmaceutical industries, enabling them to move forward into the digital future. By providing these services, the company makes an important contribution to international drug safety.
The global healthcare market is changing. The topic of drug safety is increasingly becoming a focus of industry and policymakers – more and more countries are working on legal requirements for the unambiguous labelling of drug packaging. Drug safety is also one of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 3 aims, among other things, to ensure “access to safe, effective, quality and affordable essential medicines” for all. With its IT services and business solutions, Arvato Systems is helping to achieve this goal. In the healthcare segment, the company covers the entire process chain with proprietary serialization solutions that support individual manufacturing companies as well as national verification systems. The European Medicines Verification Organization (EMVO) selected Arvato Systems as its official service provider.
National verification systems to ensure drug safety
Since February 9, 2019, an EU Counterfeiting Directive has stipulated that prescription-only medicines may only be put into circulation if their packaging bears a unique serial number. The serial number can be used to verify the identity and authenticity of a medicine. All mem-ber states of the European Union are also obliged to provide a country-wide IT system that enables a comprehensive process within the pharmaceutical distribution and supply chain. Arvato Systems offers the 28 European member states and other non-EU members a way to securely, cost-effectively and quickly implement all aspects of the EU’s binding Falsified Medicines Directive. As one of the leading providers, the Gütersloh-based IT company currently implements and operates 17 national verification systems in Europe which means it covers the largest share of Europe’s pharmaceuticals packaging volume.
