Bertelsmann Marketing Services’ storage media manufacturer Sonopress has now been officially certified to the international Global Recycled Standard (GRS). The certification underscores Sonopress’ commitment to sustainability and environmental protection. The GRS is a voluntary product standard that promotes the use of recycled materials in products while taking into account social and environmental practices and chemical restrictions. Sonopress has achieved certification in record time, according to the company. “The GRS certification is an important milestone for our company and underlines our commitment to environmental protection,” said Anja Poser, Vice President Sustainability Management & ESG at Sonopress. “We are pleased to be able to offer this sustainable option to our customers.”
The traceability of material flows and production processes is important for the manufacture of the “Eco Record”, among other things. As reported earlier, the “Eco Record” is a revolutionary new form of LP that uses recyclable polyethylene terephthalate (PET) as the base material instead of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). No natural gas or steam is required to press the records. This means that the environmental impact of the manufacturing process can be reduced by up to 85 percent compared to conventional methods.
Sonopress announced that the company will continue to develop environmentally friendly solutions and promote sustainability in media production. Just a few days ago, the company announced its next sustainable product innovation, the “Eco CD”, which is made from 90 percent recycled polycarbonate, sourced from post-consumer waste streams. As a result, the CO2 emissions associated with the material are reduced by up to 75 percent.
The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) is a voluntary product standard for tracking and verifying the content of recycled materials in a final product. The standard applies to the full supply chain and addresses traceability, environmental principles, social requirements, chemical content and labeling. GRS covers processing, manufacturing, packaging, labeling, trading and distribution of all products made with a minimum of 20 percent recycled material. It also sets requirements for third-party certification of recycled content, chain of custody, social and environmental practices, and chemical restrictions. The standard supports companies looking to verify the recycled content of their products as well as responsible social, environmental and chemical practices in the production of these products.
