The Brazilian education provider Afya, in which Bertelsmann holds a stake, has been added to Bloomberg’s 2022 Gender-Equality Index (GEI)” The index measures the gender-equality performance of public companies. Companies must score above a global threshold established by Bloomberg to be included on the index.
Bloomberg, one of the leading providers of business information, has added the Brazilian education provider Afya to its “2022 Gender-Equality Index (GEI)”. With this index, Bloomberg aims to track the performance of public companies that are committed to transparency in gender-data reporting. Afya, in which Bertelsmann holds a 25 percent capital stake and 46 percent of the voting rights, is listed on the NASDAQ in New York and is one of 418 companies across 45 countries and regions to join the 2022 GEI.
The Bloomberg index measures gender equality in the companies across five pillars: female leadership & talent pipeline, equal pay & gender pay parity, inclusive culture, anti-sexual harassment policies, and pro-women brand. Afya was included on this year’s index for scoring above the global threshold established by Bloomberg to reflect disclosure and the achievement or adoption of best-in-class statistics and policies.
Virgilio Gibbon, Afya’s CEO, noted: “In August 2021, Afya made a voluntary commitment to fill at least 50 percent of its management positions with women by 2030, according to the United Nations Global Compact’s Sustainable Development Goals. The inclusion in the 2022 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index reinforces our commitment to gender equality. We will continue to work on improving our metrics with policy development, representation and transparency, fostering more opportunities for diverse talents to succeed in our organization.”
