Today, World Mental Health Day, Bertelsmann is launching this year’s mental health initiative. Employees worldwide can take part in various programs. For Bertelsmann Chief HR Officer Immanuel Hermreck, mental health is not only the basis for well-being and satisfaction, but also for innovation and success.
Today, October 10, is World Mental Health Day. On this day, Bertelsmann is also sending a powerful signal regarding the importance of its employees’ mental health. Under the heading “Mental Health Matters,” the company is launching this year’s mental health initiative, which includes a variety of offers for all Bertelsmann employees.
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines health holistically as “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being.” In a world that is constantly changing and presents us with new challenges every day, experts believe it is therefore more important than ever to pay attention to mental health. “At Bertelsmann, the mental well-being of our employees is of utmost relevance. It not only forms the foundation for well-being and satisfaction but also for innovation and success,” said Immanuel Hermreck, Chief HR Officer at Bertelsmann. “Together, we create an environment where everyone feels safe and valued, and where mental health is promoted as naturally as physical health.”
Supportive, health-oriented corporate culture
With this in mind, this year’s initiative is also another important step towards breaking down prejudices and destigmatizing mental health [disorders]. The aim is to establish a supportive and health-oriented corporate culture. More can be achieved together – for health and well-being. Günter Göbel, Gaby McNab, Michael Lauck and Francesco Costadura also emphasize that while mental health should be a personal topic, it should by no means be taboo. In their respective roles at Bertelsmann, they actively promote a positive and open approach to mental health.
“The intensification of work is constantly increasing,” noted Günter Göbel, Chairman of the Bertelsmann Group Works Council. “Everything has to be faster, more effective, and more productive. Therefore, it is very important that everyone takes care of their mental health. Employers also need to significantly expand or adjust their support in this area.” Gaby McNab, Group Disability Officer at Bertelsmann, commented: “Mental issues should be taken just as seriously as physical illnesses. As with any illness, one should seek professional help. Doing so is a sign of strength and self-care and truly helps.” Michael Lauck, Chairman of the “be.queer” network at Bertelsmann, added: “Mental health concerns us all and is crucial for our emotional stability and strength. It is a key component in unlocking our full potential. Not only do strong social connections with family or friends offer support, stability, and help in overcoming challenges together, but an employee network can also contribute significantly.” And Francesco Costadura, Chief HR Officer at RTL Group, emphasized that, “At RTL Group, we strive to build a working environment which preserves the well-being and satisfaction of our colleagues, talents and partners who put their energy into creating our products and services. We believe that an appreciative atmosphere, social support, a sense of purpose and initiatives geared at strengthening health in the workplace are of great benefit to each of us and sustain RTL Group’s competitiveness and success.”
As part of this year’s initiative, all Bertelsmann employees can now take advantage of a wide range of free offers on the topic of “Mental Health Matters.” Registration is now open on Peoplenet. The two highlight events are:
