Soccer fans have four exciting weeks of television ahead – and can choose to enjoy them on RTL and M6, if they so desire. The two TV channels are airing live broadcasts of numerous matches from the European Soccer Championship, which starts today, as part of their programming.
RTL Deutschland
As part of the partnership between Deutsche Telekom and RTL Deutschland, RTL will broadcast twelve matches on free-to-air TV in conjunction with Magenta TV, Deutsche Telekom’s streaming service. The joint coverage, which includes one round-of-16 and one quarter-final match, kicks off on Sunday, June 16 with the Netherlands vs. Poland encounter. The kick-off is at 3 p.m., and the coverage begins at 1:30 p.m. A comprehensive team of commentators and experts will present the broadcasts both on Magenta TV and RTL. It includes Laura Wontorra, Johannes B. Kerner, Lothar Matthäus, Michael Ballack, Steffen Freund, Wolff Fuss, Marco Hagemann, Owen Hargreaves, Jan Henkel, Patrick Ittrich, Florian König, Tabea Kemme, Anna Kraft, Anna Sara Lange, Shkodran Mustafi, Laura Papendick, Thomas Wagner, and Jana Wosnitza. One of the most modern TV studios in Europe has been set up specifically for the “UEFA EURO 2024” at RTL’s broadcasting center in Cologne-Deutz, which will be the home of Magenta TV and RTL for the duration of the tournament.
Just 15 minutes after the respective final whistle, all the goals and highlights from all 51 matches of the tournament can be watched in extensive match summaries on RTL+. A humorous, charming, and creative digital home for all soccer fans will also be created on RTL Sport’s social media channels. The sports coverage will be supplemented during this period by a new live soccer show entitled “Das RTL EM-Studio – Alle Spiele, Tore, Emotionen” (The RTL EURO Studio – All the matches, goals, and feels). Elton with ex-footballer Stefan Kuntz, and presenter Jan Köppen with ex-soccer pro Stefan Effenberg will take turns presenting the show. Mitja Lafere from RTL’s NFL presenter team is on board as an outside reporter. At the end of the day, the daily “Nachtjournal EM-Spezial” provides a compact summary of the day’s events. RTL Deutschland’s nine commercial radio stations will provide the perfect complement to the TV broadcasts by reporting live from all European Championship matches with German participation.
M6
France’s M6 will broadcast 13 of the 25 European Championship matches live. First up are the seven preliminary round matches, including the France vs. Netherlands match on June 21. This will be followed by two round-of-16 matches and two quarter-finals. Should the French national team reach the quarter-finals, M6 will air this match as well. The channel will then broadcast one of the two semi-finals and conclude with the final match on July 14 in Berlin. Well-known presenters and commentators such as Christophe Dugarry, Xavier Domergue and Carine Galli will be responsible for presenting the matches. Sports journalists Smail Bouabdellah and Laurie Samama as well as Alain Boghossian will provide pre- and post-match coverage. In addition to the main channel, the matches will also be available on the new M6+ streaming portal – along with a wealth of statistics, match schedules, tables, and EURO 2024-related information. In addition to the above-described match coverage, M6 is also planning to cover the European Championship in detail in its news shows “Le 12.45” and “Le 19.45.”
